Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Often we can feel stuck in our emotions, patterns of behavior, and thought cycles. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy aims to increase our psychological flexibility through a combination of acceptance and mindfulness strategies as well as commitment and behavioral strategies. We can learn to stop avoiding, denying and shutting down our emotions but rather accept their presence while still moving forward with what is important to us in our lives. We can learn to act according to our values, even though painful thoughts and feelings may still be present.
